Book Review

for a

Frantic Family”

Patrick Lencioni

This book’s dust jacket calls this a “leadership fable about restoring sanity to the most important organization in your life,” and that pretty much sums it up!

Patrick Lencioni is a business consultant and New York Times best-selling author of a series of books that address common organizational concerns, including focused and effective leadership, creating highly functional teams, and designing and running effective meetings.  Each book is designed in two parts; the first portion of the book is a fable, complete with characters and a story line that compellingly illustrate the organizational concepts spelled out in the final portion of the book, or “The Model.”

I recently reread this book in preparation for Parent Education Workshops I will be conducting at The Fay School in Houston this spring.  Lencioni’s concepts have been essential in the work the school’s Head, Bob Meyer, his leadership team, their executive coach and I have done over the last several years to shape the culture of the school’s community.

If you and your family seem to be in chaos, too often too busy to enjoy one another, then this book is a good place to begin the work of creating structures and follow-through mechanisms that will increase your individual and mutual sense of fulfillment.

     The three big questions are:

· What makes your family unique?

· What is your family’s top priority right now?

· How do you talk about and use the answers to these questions?

Give the book a read and then give me a call.  I am committed to assisting you in creating the family life you desire!
